  • The number of people with hypertension is likely to increase from 118 million in 2000 to 213 million by 2025.
  • The rate of cardiovascular disease mortality in India in the 30-59 year age group is double that in the United States.

Chronic diseases are the major cause of death and disability worldwide. In India, it accounts for nearly 6 million of the total mortality reported annually, which is almost 60 percent of all deaths. Over 20% of the population in India has at least one chronic disease and more than 10% of the population have more than one.

Chronic diseases create significant, adverse, and under-appreciated economic effects on families and communities. India stands to lose $237 billion over the next 10 years from premature deaths.

By 2030 more lives will be lost as a result of chronic disease in India than is projected for China, Russia, and the USA combined.

Chronic diseases are primarily caused by an accumulation of lifestyle factors that adversely affect individual health. Healthy dietary habits and regular exercise not only prevent such chronic conditions but in many cases can reverse the effects of the disease.

This problem is an epidemic and prevention is the solution.

Nutrition

Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch, and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat.

Practice and train functional movements and major lifts, run, bike, swim, and ski. Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense. Regularly learn and play new sports.
